The Arc of the United States has updated their guide designed to provide insights to families on personal, financial, and legal protections for children with cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities after the death of their parents or when they are no longer in a position to provide care or support. Special Education Technology Center, http://www.cwu.edu/~setc , State Needs Project through Superintendent of Public Instruction, focus on school-aged individuals/needs. Washington Assistive Technology Foundation, http://www. watf.org , funding for assistive technology, non-profit.
3) Safety Net of Tangled Web? A report of programs and services for Adults with disabilities from The Urban Institute - By David Wittenburg and Melissa Favreault
This report describes 15 major public programs serving low-income, non-elderly adults with disabilities. The authors conclude that the safety net for low-income adults with disabilities is more like a tangled web of conflicting goals and gaps in needed services. Opportunities for temporary cash, training, and rehabilitation support are especially limited for disabled adults with limited work histories and/or who experienced their disability outside of work. SSI, a permanent cash benefit program that could likely lead to a lifetime of program participation, is the primary option for these adults. The authors discuss promising policy options that take a more coordinated approach in serving the complex needs of adults with disabilities. http://www.urban.org/url.cfm?ID=900667
