1) Comic Strip portrayal of people with disabilities - For Better or Worse, which is kind of a family comic strip. Starting on this past Monday, October 25, the strip is featuring a story line about a young girl with a disability (can't tell whether it's a learning disability of developmental disability or what) taking part in a high school class. The student has a teaching assistant and the story is focusing on how the other students are reacting to her being in their class. So far, it seems to be heading in the right direction in terms of messaging.   It runs is many local papers, authored by Lynne Johnson a Canadian cartoonist.  She has presented many social themes over the past years, and it is a personal favorite. http://www.comics.com/comics/forbetter/archive/forbetter-20041025.html   Via this link, you can go to the little calendar at the bottom and view all of this week's installments.

2) New ERIC Web Site - September 1, 2004, marked the introduction of the new ERIC Web site. The new site provides users with increased search capabilities utilizing simple, streamlined retrieval methods to access the existing ERIC bibliographic database (1966-2004).  In addition, the Web site provides users with the capability to save and rerun searches using the My ERIC personalization feature.
On October 1, 2004, ERIC introduced free full-text non-journal ERIC resources. These materials include more than 105,000 full-text documents authorized for electronic ERIC distribution during 1993 - July 2004, previously sold through E*Subscribe from the ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS).
In December, ERIC will add new bibliographic records and full-text journal and non-journal resources published in 2004. Newly indexed materials that are not available free-of-charge will be made accessible through database links to commercial sources. ERIC will continue to add features and enhancements to the system in the coming months.

3) CONSUMER-DIRECTED HEALTH CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - NCD has released a report on consumer-directed health care for people with disabilities. The report, Consumer-Directed Health Care: How Well Does It Work?, evaluates the evidence base for the nation's consumer-directed health care efforts. UNIVERSAL DESIGN REPORT NCD has also released a report on universal design. Design for Inclusion: Creating a New Marketplace, aims to educate designers and manufacturers about how electronic and information technology intersects with the needs of individuals with disabilities. At a time when the incorporation of universal design is crucial, NCD hopes that the information provided in this report will motivate and drive the development of more universally , accessibly designed electronic and information technology. 4) NCSET YOUTH TO WORK COALITION - This site represents a coalition of corporations, foundations, nonprofits, and federal agencies promoting internships and mentoring programs for youth with disabilities.  According to the website, the Coalition connects and strengthens public and private sector programs supporting internships, mentoring, and school-to-work transition; partners with business associations and nonprofits serving youth and disability groups; collects best practices and model programs around the country; and provides technical assistance to businesses that plan to establish or strengthen programs to serve youth with disabilities. http://www.ncset.org/youthtowork/
