Social Security Hearings and Appeal Resources on Line. (Added 9-7-2005)
The Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) administers the hearings and appeals program for the Social Security Administration (SSA). Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) conduct hearings and issue decisions. The Appeals Council considers appeals from hearing decisions, and acts as the final level of administrative review for the Social Security Administration. There are many resources available to help individuals prepare for a hearing or appeal including new options to holding the appeal by video conference.

New Resource on Transportation and Youth/Adults with Disabilities (Added 10-7-2005)
For youth with developmental and other disabilities, the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills, and experience in using public transportation as well as other transportation options is key to preparation for adult community living. "Impact: Feature Issue on Meeting Transportation Needs of Youth and Adults with Developmental Disabilities" is a new publication from the Institute on Community Integration, University of Minnesota that offers strategies for meeting these and other transportation needs of youth and adults with disabilities. This summer issue of the quarterly newsletter is available online at http://www.ici.umn.edu/products/impact/183/183.pdf.
It's also available in print by contacting the Institute's Publications Office at 612/624-4512 or publications@icimail.umn.edu ; the first print copy is free and each additional is $4.

New CCD Fact Sheets on Social Security - The CCD Task Force on Social Security has prepared a set of seven fact sheets on Social Security and people with disabilities.  The fact sheets are intended to assist people in understanding what benefits people with disabilities receive from Social Security and the potential impact of privatization.  ( http://www.c-c-d.org ) under "What's New in CCD" in both PDF format and Microsoft Word. 

Pass: SSI's Plan for Achieving Self-Support - A step by step guide (from Cornell University Work Incentive Support Center) in writing a Pass Plan, which can provide an alternative funding source to support a range of work goals.   A Pass Plan allows a person to exclude income and/or resources that would otherwise be counted in determining SSI eligibility.   www.ilr.cornell.edu/ped/dep/pp_12.pdf

SSA Benefits Planning and Assistance and Outreach Curriculum - One of the useful benefits of the Ticket to work Legislation of 1999 was to provide for Benefits Planning, Assistance and outreach (BPA&O).   Copies of the BPA&O Manual that is used to train Benefits Planners are available in PDF versions, Large Print, And Spanish is available online.    www.ilr.cornell.edu/ped/ssa_curriculum/index
